Diplomacy is a profession like medicine or law; its goal is to advance the national interests of a country through dialogue, negotiation, and cooperation with the governments of other countries. It was only in the 18th Century that the organization and administration of Diplomacy within a single entity i.e. Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), run by a Minister, came into force (Berridge, 2005).
For more than 100 years exceptionally dedicated diplomats represented Ethiopiaโs and Ethiopianโs interest around the world. Notable diplomats such as His Majesty Emperor Haile Silase, Tsehafe Tezaze Aklilu Habtewolde (แธแแ แตแแแ แ แญแแ แแฅแฐแแแต) and Colonel Goshu Wolde single-handedly defended Ethiopia on the international arena with admirable proficiency and nationalistic fervor.
The Ethiopian government assessed the effectiveness of its more than 60 missions across the globe and decided to recall most of its diplomats for an alleged consultation and redeployment. Be it as it may be some diplomats are making personal decisions to not return. These may be individual decisions and I fully respect such choices!
I watched with horror and disgust โdiplomatโ Assefa Nigusseโs interview on ETHIO 360 media. I do not want to speculate โdiplomatโ Nigusseโs motives. Nigusseโs airing Ethiopiaโs dirty laundry in public in such a shameful manner is beyond comprehension. You may disagree with your leaders or your government, but you must not backstab your country for any reason whatso ever. Leaders come and go but Ethiopia is forever! Nigusseโs horrible expose is extremely damaging to Ethiopia.

In 1986, when His Excellency Colonel Goshu Wold resigned his post as the foreign minister of the Foreign Ministry of Ethiopia he stylishly said: โI cannot, in good conscience, continue to serve a government whose short-sighted and rigidly doctrinaire policies are leading the country and the people into misery and destruction.โ Colonel Wolde returned his return ticket money when decide to stay in the US.
